At Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, we’re proud to be an electric cooperative serving a large part of Central Texas. We also pride ourselves on our conscientious business approach. We work with the calculated discipline of a private corporation — because members like you are just as invested in our success as shareholders are in their company.

Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, Inc., was incorporated as the Lower Colorado River Electric Cooperative in 1939. In 1964, in order to avoid confusion with the Lower Colorado River Authority, the organization changed its name to Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, Inc.

Today, Bluebonnet is one of the largest electric cooperatives in Texas, owned by its members and with all profits allocated to them. Bluebonnet members pay a fee when they apply for service, thus joining an organization devoted to efficiency, cost-effectiveness and member satisfaction.

Bluebonnet employs over 200 people. The organization is led by a ten-member board of directors, elected by the membership at the cooperative’s annual meeting, held every May. The original and enduring purpose of Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative is to provide affordable, reliable electric service for residents in a large part of Central Texas.
