River Authority (LCRA)
LCRA is a Texas conservation
and reclamation district. Founded in 1939, the LCRA today
plays several roles for Central Texas, including delivering
electricity, and developing water and wastewater utilities.

Council of Texas (ERCOT)
ERCOT administers
the state’s power grid. One of ten regional reliability
councils in North America, ERCOT serves about 85% of Texas’
electric load and 75% of the state’s geographic land
area.

Cooperatives (TEC)
TEC is a statewide organization
representing Texas’ cooperative electric utilities and
the members we serve. Founded in 1941, TEC today represents
64 distribution cooperatives, as well as the state’s
11 generation and transmission cooperatives.
National Rural
Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA)
NRECA
is the national organization representing cooperative electric
utilities and the members we serve. Founded in 1942, NRECA
today has almost 1,000 member cooperatives, serving 36 million
people within 47 states
Public
Utility Commission of Texas (PUC)
PUCT has worked to represent and protect the public
interest regarding operations, rates and services of public
electric and telecommunications utilities.

Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
Since its 1993 inception, TCEQ, formerly the Texas Natural Resource Conservation
Commission, has served as the state’s comprehensive
environmental protection agency, working for clean air, clean
water and safe waste management.

Power Association (TPPA)
TPPA is a statewide organization
representing public Texas’ power providers, including
municipally owned electric utilities, river authorities, joint
action agencies and some electric cooperatives.
Federal Energy
Regulatory Commission (FERC)
FERC is an independent
government agency, officially organized under the U.S. Department
of Energy. Created in 1920 as the Federal Power Commission,
FERC is responsible for regulating the interstate transmission
of natural gas, oil and electricity.
U.S. Department
of Energy (DOE)
DOE, created in 1977 in response
to the ‘70s’ energy crises, is responsible for
coordinating and administering the energy functions of the
federal government, including research and development of
energy technology, energy conservation and energy regulatory
programs.
U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA)
EPA, created in 1970
in response to growing public demand for cleaner water, air
and land, is responsible for repairing damage already done
to America’s natural environment and establishing new
criteria to guide Americans toward a cleaner environment.

Research Institute (EPRI)
EPRI, is a nonprofit
energy research consortium for the benefit of utility members,
their customers and society. Created in 1973, EPRI’s
manages an extensive program of scientific research, technology
development and product implementation.
