Bluebonnet And Manor ISD Partner to Host
First Annual Regional Chess Tournament
(Bastrop) – Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, in conjunction with Manor Independent School District, will be hosting their first annual Regional Chess Tournament. The event will be held at the Manor New Tech High School on Friday, May 8, beginning at 2 p.m.
“At Manor ISD, we believe that chess is not just a game but a life-long skill to develop critical thinking and problem solving,” said Andrew Kim, Manor ISD superintendent. “Our students have rallied around chess and understand that there are many possibilities as a result of playing this wonderful game.”
The tournament is open to students who are juniors and seniors at high schools throughout Bluebonnet’s 14-county service area. The first place winner will receive a $2,500 scholarship, second place $1,000 and third place $500, payable to the college or technical school of their choice. Visitors are invited to attend the event; refreshments and concessions will be available.
“We are grateful for our partnership with Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative to bring this level of attention to our region and support this wonderful opportunity for students to receive scholarship money,” said Kim.
“One of Bluebonnet’s Foundation Values is commitment to Community,” said Hondo Powell, Bluebonnet community representative and event coordinator. “Functions such as this help support our core values by fostering future strong leaders for our Communities.”
