(Bastrop) – Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative named Gary Gutierrez, a Bastrop native with a background in law enforcement, as its emergency management and security coordinator. Gutierrez, who has been Bluebonnet’s community representative in Bastrop County since 2005, retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety, after a distinguished career that culminated in the agency’s intelligence unit.
“Gary’s law enforcement experience and his knowledge of Bluebonnet and our service area make him the perfect choice to manage our emergency response team and coordinate security for our facilities,” said Mark Rose, Bluebonnet’s general manager. “Gary will apply his expertise to strengthen our already well developed and proven emergency response plan. He has the knowledge and the contacts with emergency service agencies to ensure there is open communication and cooperation in the event of an emergency.”
As emergency management and security coordinator, Gutierrez will manage Bluebonnet’s emergency response team during emergency drills and actual events. He will be the primary contact between the cooperative and emergency response coordinators at the local, state and federal levels. Additionally, he will coordinate security for Bluebonnet’s facilities, including infrastructure that is critical to maintaining safe and reliable electric service to co-op members.
