| Bluebonnet Teaches Burton and Round Top-Carmine Elementary Students the Power of Power
Fourth grade students learn how electricity works and how to be safe around it
(BURTON, TEXAS) Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative recently helped Burton and Round Top-Carmine Elementary School students learn just how powerful electric power is and can be. Through the cooperative's “Electric Junction” safety program, Burton and Round Top-Carmine Elementary fourth graders were given a visual demonstration of the basic scientific and practical principles of electricity.
“At Bluebonnet, safety is one of our core values,” said Bluebonnet Community Representative Beverly Lee. “We are proud to help the students in our service area better understand the power of electricity so that they can help prevent electricity related accidents.”
The presentations were made by Beverly Lee, Randall Bownds and Heith Siegmund, Bluebonnet linemen. Together, they taught about 19 students at each school how electricity gets to their homes and schools from the power plant, as well as provided the students with very important safety tips. The students also got to look at the equipment linemen use, and participated in a question-and-answer session.
In addition, Beverly Lee told all of the children about Bluebonnet's “Rural Crime Watch” program, which urges cooperative employees in the field to report suspicious activity they might see while working in the community. Lee explained that whenever kids see a Bluebonnet vehicle with the “Rural Crime Watch” logo on the side that it's safe to come to us for help.
Bluebonnet has done “Electric Junction” presentations at intermediate and elementary schools throughout its service area.
