(GIDDINGS, TEXAS) At Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative’s 2006 Annual Membership Meeting, held on
May 9th at the Giddings Sons of Herman Hall, over 5,200 members voted to re-elect two members of the
co-op’s board of directors.
Richard Schmidt of Caldwell County and James Kershaw of Bastrop County were re-elected to serve
another term as members of Bluebonnet’s ten-member board of directors. Directors, who must be
members of the co-op, are elected at-large through member proxies and ballots cast at the annual meeting.
They serve for three-year, rotating terms, and no more than two directors can be elected from any one of
the 14 counties served by Bluebonnet.
Two hundred and forty members attended the annual meeting, while more than 5,000 members voted by
proxy. Last year more than 8,500 members voted by proxy, compared to 2,845 in 2004, and 7,289 in 2003.
Bluebonnet General Manager/CEO Mark Rose addressed the members in attendance, focusing on the
rising cost of energy, and what Bluebonnet is doing about it.
“Our pledge to you,” said Rose, “is that even with our modernization costs and higher wholesale prices,
we will be competitive, reliable and totally committed to member service.” |
