Bluebonnet Provides Funds to Ensure Opening of Lockhart State Park Swimming Pool
May 26 , 2006
(GIDDINGS, TEXAS) Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative announced today that it would contribute $6200 to the Friends of the Lockhart State Park Pool Fund to ensure that the Lockhart State Park Swimming Pool would open this summer as it has every summer for over 70 years.
In February, Lockhart citizens were alerted that the Lockhart State Park Swimming Pool would not open this summer due to the fact that the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department had reached its spending cap and did not have the $31,000 needed to operate the pool this year. A group of citizens met with park officials and it was agreed that if the community could raise half of the costs, the state would open and operate the pool in 2006. The Friends of the Lockhart State Park Pool raised over $7700 towards the $15,000 goal and Bluebonnet has agreed to donate the remaining $6200 from state escheated funds. Each year Bluebonnet escheats unclaimed capital credits to the State of Texas and receives a portion of those funds back. “Bluebonnet is committed to having a positive impact on the communities we serve,” said Lockhart Community Development Representative, Joyce Buckner, “and helping to keep the local swimming pool open was a project we were eager to assist with.”
Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative sponsors and supports many activities, programs and services within its communities, contributing funding as well as time and energy to many worthwhile events. |
