The Luling Foundation Receives $3,000 Grant
July 11, 2006
(LULING, TEXAS) The Luling Foundation Agricultural Demonstration Farm will be able to make a
much needed addition with the help of a $3,000 community development grant. The grant, provided by
Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative and LCRA, will allow the Foundation to install a rainwater harvesting
demonstration at the farm. As current and future water issues continue to create and foster more interest in
the region, the Foundation strongly believes that such a project will benefit the community significantly. “Our goal is to increase awareness and appreciation of water as a natural resource to the people in the
region including youth, homeowners, farmers and ranchers,” said Michael Kuck, a spokesperson for the
Foundation. “The support provided by these grant funds help to make this project possible.”
Since its establishment in 1927 by Edgar B. Davis, the Foundation has taught diversity in agriculture and
improved the lives of farm and ranch families in central Texas. Current activities at the Farm include multiyear
conservation tillage trials, sustainable agriculture demonstrations, native and improved pecan bottoms,
wildlife food plots and registered Angus cattle operations. Farm programs for youth include agricultural
loans, facilities and livestock judging contests for 4-H and FFA, and Farm tours.
The community grant is one of a number of grants awarded through LCRA's Community Development
Partnership Program. The program provides economic development and community assistance grants to
cities, counties, volunteer fire departments, regional development councils and other nonprofit
organizations in LCRA's electric and water service areas as part of LCRA's effort to give back to the
communities it serves. Bluebonnet Electric is one of LCRA's 42 wholesale electric customers and a
partner in the grant program. |
