The Round Top Area Historical Society
Receives $25,000 Grant
August 9 , 2006
(GIDDINGS, TEXAS) The Round Top Area Historical Society will be able to preserve and convert a
local historic home into a museum with the help of a $25,000.00 community development grant.
Formed in 1993, the Round Top Area Historical Society was chartered to collect, display and preserve the
history of the Round Top area.
The grant, provided by Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative and the Lower Colorado River Authority
(LCRA), will enable the society to proceed with restoring the 1920’s Noak farm house. Once complete,
this building will be added to the society’s Wood Annex, which already contains the Kraus Haus, a log
cabin from the 1880’s, and an African American Church which is being restored as a museum. “The Noak farm house will be the main museum building,” said Georgia Tubbs, President of the society. “It will be used to preserve and display Round Top area history for local citizens as well as visitors and
students to enjoy for future generations.”
The community grant is one of a number of grants recently awarded through LCRA's Community
Development Partnership Program. The program provides economic development and community
assistance grants to cities, counties, volunteer fire departments, regional development councils and other
nonprofit organizations in LCRA's electric and water service areas as part of LCRA's effort to give back to
the communities it serves. Bluebonnet Electric is one of LCRA's 42 wholesale electric customers and a
partner in the grant program. |
