Deadlines Approaching for Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative Scholarships December 28, 2006
(GIDDINGS, TEXAS) Deadlines are approaching for high-school students, within Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative's service area, who want to apply for either the co-op's Scholarships of Excellence program or Government Youth Tour sponsorship.
Now in its tenth year, Bluebonnet's Scholarships of Excellence program offers selected children of cooperative members money toward their college education. $2,000 will be awarded to twenty-six graduating seniors who plan to pursue an academic degree or a vocational degree at a state university, junior college or technical school. To be eligible for a Scholarship of Excellence, a student must:
- Be a graduating senior attending a high school or an accredited Home Extended Studies program or receiving a GED diploma living in the home of a parent or legal guardian who is a full time resident in the Bluebonnet service area and maintains an active account.
- Application for admission as a full time student at a university, college, junior college or trade school.
- For an academic scholarship, the student will need to provide an original high school transcript with class size and a GPA of 3.0 or higher or a transcript with a GPA of 3.0 or higher from the Home Extended Studies Program.
- Complete an application which must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
Scholarship applications are available at all Bluebonnet Member Service Centers, through area high-school counselors or at www.bluebonnetelectric.coop. Completed applications must be submitted to Bluebonnet no later than February 16, 2007.
Bluebonnet is also accepting applications for Government Youth Tour sponsorships, in which Bluebonnet sponsors two Central Texas high school students on a nine day exploration of Washington, D.C., all expenses paid.
Bluebonnet offers the opportunity to all 10th, 11th and 12th graders attending schools within the cooperative's service territory, whose parent or legal guardian is an active co-op member. Bluebonnet covers all transportation, lodging and meal expenses for its sponsored students.
Sponsorships are awarded based upon a written themed essay. Applications are available at all Bluebonnet Member Service Centers, through area high-school counselors or at www.bluebonnetelectric.coop. Completed applications must be submitted with two letters of recommendation to Bluebonnet no later than February 1, 2007. |
